The Perfect Natural Morning Routine
You can ask anyone who knows me, I’m a textbook morning person. Although I don’t always start my day off early, I do feel my best minutes after I wake up.
This is my idea of a perfect morning routine. Most days I do about 80% of theses things and I feel GREAT. The best way to guarantee yourself a good day is to put yourself in the right mind set from the start. Each of these little things help me start my day off right AND with a little self care ?.
Waking up | Set an Alarm
I truly believe that waking up at the same time everyday creates a natural alarm in your body. I love when I naturally wake up before my alarm…(and skip throwing my phone at the wall.) BUT, It’s sticking to that schedule of actually setting an alarm and making an effort, that has always been the hardest part for me.
In a perfect world I would wake up at 6am everyday… but since I’m in college and stay up late each night, I currently wake up between 7:30 and 8:30 am.
*Try waking up at the same time (and maybe earlier than you’re used to) for a month and see how you feel!
Electronics | Phone down, laptop off
I try to avoid the temptation of picking up my phone or turning on my laptop right after I wake up. I know that once I’m on my phone the minutes will pass by and before I know it I’ll have wasted an hour starring at the screen!
Mind Space | Meditate
I’ve downloaded all different meditation apps and played around with their suggested breathing techniques… not really sure what I was doing. After educating myself more, I’ve started to really get into mediation and I can already feel the benefits. If you’re curious about mediation I would check out the app store for an app to help guide you. I’ll be doing an entire post on my journey as well ?.
Get moving | Start Yoga
My University offers free yoga classes each week and they are the reason I started. Since then I’ve been doing yoga in my room some mornings and I find videos like Yoga with Adriene really helpful! Doing yoga first thing in the morning helps your body stretch and puts you in the right mind set.
Hygiene | Oil Pull
Once (or even while if I’m pressed for time) I’ve done some or all of those things I like to oil pull. Oil pulling is something I’ve started doing just this year, but more regularly this summer. I heard about it first from watching Caitlin Shoemaker’s morning routine videos and decided to give it try.
Oil pulling is said to whiten your teeth naturally and is also good for your gums, so why not try it!
Here’s an article with more information and the benefits of oiling pulling. All you do is swish around about a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes before you eat or drink!
Make sure to check out my full post on my everyday bathroom essentials too!
Drink | Get them greens
Drinking a green drink or frozen fruit and kale smoothie is a great way to start any morning. I like to add a few stems of tuscan kale that I get from my local farmers market with some frozen fruit and flax seed to a blender each morning. I’ve noticed that I feel super energized after drinking this and crave less sugary foods!
Hydrate | Drink Your H2O
I’ll have a entire post dedicated to the benefits of water up soon, but for now DRINK, DRINK, DRINK!
Although it does depend on the person, ideally we should be drinking around 2 liters of water everyday. If that seems outrageous to you then I suggest starting small and building up your water intake safely each day!
If you made it all the way to the end of this post leave a comment! I’d love to hear what you think ☺
